Pastor Sykes is a life time lover of gospel music and has contributed to the industry as a song writer, concert promoter, choir and workshop organizer, and thirty-one year veteran gospel music announcer. He is currently employed by WEUP Radio, Alabama's oldest black owned radio station, as the Gospel Music Director. e has also served in the capacity of Program Director. e is also a member of the Gospel Announcers Guild of the Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Pastor Sykes has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, commendations, and certificates, including Pastor of the Year awards and Clergy of the Year awards from various community and civic organizations. e was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Faith College of Birmingham, Alabama in November of 1995. n 2006, WEUP Radio, for which Pastor Sykes is employed as the Gospel Music Director, won the coveted Stellar Award for radio station of the year.

Pastor Sykes' greatest desire and ambition is to be faithful to the charge given to him by God to preach the Gospel and to feed the flock of God.
Pastor Sykes has served as pastor of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama since July, 1986. Under his pastorate, the church has experienced continued growth in many areas, the most important, being spiritually.
Pastor Sykes is a much sought after preacher of the gospel and evangelist. He is widely known for his pure and simple, yet powerful style of preaching. He has been invited to preach the gospel in every region of the nation. He is also an avid teacher of the Word of God and often facilitates workshops and seminars in many places.
Pastor Sykes is active in his denomination. He has served the Flint River Missionary Baptist Association of North Alabama as Moderator of the Ministers, Deacons, and Laymen's Union, Vice Moderator of the Parent Body, and Dean of Education. He is a member of the Greater Huntsville Interdenominational Ministerial Fellowship and past member of the Greater Huntsville Ministerial Alliance. He was also active in the New Era Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention of Alabama where he served as the Secretary of the Pastor's Conference and as the State Reporter. He is presently active in the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. and has served as the Director General of the Congress of Christian Education of the Southern Region which covers eight states.
